The best way to guarantee a flawless outcome when painting your walls, wood work or furniture, is to take special care when preparing the surface to give you the best canvas for a smooth outcome.
Whilst minimal preparations are needed for the majority of surfaces, there are some that require a little more effort to achieve the same high quality results.
Glossy surfaces are notoriously hard for fresh paint to adhere to, the roller or brush can often slide and the paint might even peel off in sheets as it dries because it just can't hold on to the smooth surface.
To avoid issues and achieve a clean and long lasting finish, you can follow the below steps:
1. Wipe the surface down
2. Sand thoroughly to make the surface less smooth
3. Clean again and dust off anything you sanded
4. Prime, ideally using a Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 primer-sealer paint (or similar primer suitable for your surface)
5. Paint 2 coats of Lick paint
6. Once painted, be a little careful for a full 7 days while the paint cures and hardens and bonds to the surface
If you follow these simple steps, you should have a durable and clean finish across the surface!
